UCS Human Factors in Aviation Safety





As one of SEPLA´s goal is to improve the safety of the flight operations, it is important for us to develop the tools within the Airline Pilots Community. To have dedicated personnel specialized and to raise the technical profile of our members will enhance the MA´s performance in order to promote a safe and secure working environment thus creating a good and widespread group of experts.
Following IFALPA´s recommendations, SEPLA has reached and agreement with the University of Southern California (U.S.C.), to have their course on Human Factors in Aviation Safety being taught in Madrid, in September 2010.
This course is part of the USC Aviation Safety and Security Certificate, and it is one of the required courses in order to achieve this Certificate.

Course Description:


This course presents human factors information in a manner that can be readilyunderstood and applied by aviation practitioners. Emphasis is placed on identifying thecauses of human error, predicting how human error can affect performance, and applyingcountermeasures to reduce or eliminate its effects. The course addresses some of thetopics recommended in the International Civil Aviation Organization's Human FactorsDigest No. 3: Training Operational Personnel in Human Factors. The emphasis is fromthe pilot’s perspective, but is applicable to all phases of aviation operations.

Objectives:
To provide human factors knowledge and practical tools that can be readily applied to improve safety within the Member Associations.

Duration and scheduling:

The course will start on Monday, September the 13th, and will finish on Friday,
September 17, 2010 at midday.
The schedule will be from 9am to 5pm, with a lunch break of one hour.

The course will take place at the SEPLA Offices in Madrid, Spain:

All the classes will be given in English and due to space limitations there will be a
limited number of attendees. In order to cope with this, a pre-subscription deadline has been set on August the 20th, and places will be given on a first come first serve basis.
The course fee is 700 € for each attendee. Please take note that the fee will not cover the hotel stay nor the meals. SEPLA has arranged special prices at nearby hotels, in order to accommodate the attendees (aprox. 120 € breakfast included).
